Your tracked link

Add a destination URL to build your tracked link. The five UTM parameters tell analytics where each click came from.

UTM parameter reference
utm_sourceThe referrer — google, facebook, newsletter
utm_mediumThe channel — cpc, social, email, organic
utm_campaignThe campaign or promotion name
utm_termPaid keyword (optional)
utm_contentDistinguishes ad/link variants (optional)
Why It Matters

Know which clicks actually convert

Without UTM tags, every ad, post and email collapses into “direct” or a generic referral in your reports, and you cannot tell what is working. Tagged links let you see the exact campaign, channel and creative behind each lead — the difference between guessing and knowing where your marketing budget earns.

Ads

Separate Google from Meta, and each campaign from the next, so you cut what does not convert.

Social & WhatsApp

Track which post, story or broadcast message drove the visit and the enquiry.

Email

Measure campaigns and individual links, then double down on the subject lines that bring clicks.

UTM questions

What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are five short tags — source, medium, campaign, term and content — added to the end of a URL. They do not change the page; they simply tell your analytics exactly which ad, post or email each visit came from.

Do UTM tags affect my SEO or rankings?

No. UTM parameters only label traffic inside your analytics tool; they have no effect on search rankings. Just keep values consistent, and avoid tagging links that point to pages on your own site.

What is the difference between source and medium?

The source names the referrer — google, facebook, newsletter — while the medium names the channel — cpc, social, email. You use both together, so a click reads as “google / cpc” rather than a vague “ads”.

Should I keep UTM values lowercase?

Yes. Analytics treats “Facebook” and “facebook” as two different sources, which splits your data. Lowercase, hyphen-separated values keep your reports clean and your campaigns grouped correctly.
