E-commerce Website Development

E-commerce development for Indian stores, catalog to checkout.

Zumper Innovation Labs provides e-commerce website development in India for stores that have to survive real order volume: Shopify and WooCommerce builds and custom storefronts with UPI and cards, cash on delivery, GST invoices, pin-code shipping rules and product pages written so search engines can index them. The checkout is the product. Everything else is decoration until it works.

What Ships

What is inside an e-commerce build?

Six layers, each of which has to hold on the first busy weekend. If a quote for ecommerce website development in India lists a theme and a logo, the other layers are missing. A theme is not a store.

Catalogue that matches how you sell

Products, variants, option sets, inventory and the pricing rules that go with them. A catalogue built for a shop with 400 SKUs and a shop with 12 configurable ones are different engineering jobs, and getting that wrong is what makes an admin panel unusable.

Checkout that survives Indian payments

UPI, cards, net banking and wallets through Indian gateways, cash on delivery where your market demands it, address validation for pin codes, and shipping rules that read the pin code rather than guessing at the courier's website.

GST invoices and the paperwork behind the order

Tax-correct invoices, HSN or SAC handling, and a document set your accountant does not have to rebuild in a spreadsheet at month end.

Product-page SEO from day one

Category and product templates written as pages a search engine can understand: unique titles, structured product data, image alt text, and collection pages that earn a query instead of duplicating the homepage.

Speed on a mobile phone in India

Compressed, sized images and a light page weight on the product template. A store that takes six seconds on 4G loses the customer to the one that takes two, whatever the price gap.

Operations: orders, returns, and the follow-up

Order states your team can read at a glance, return and exchange flows, low-stock signals, and the WhatsApp or email thread that keeps the buyer informed without someone typing it out per order.

Platform Choice

Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom storefront?

The wrong question is which platform is cheaper to start, because the one that costs least in month one is often the one needing three paid apps and a developer before your catalogue behaves the way you actually sell. The right question is which you can still operate in three years, and which rules your catalogue has.

Storefront options compared by what they suit and where they become a problem
OptionSuitsWhere it bites later
ShopifyA standard catalogue, a small team, no server to ownApp subscriptions stacked to cover gaps, and checkout rules the platform will not open
WooCommerceContent-heavy stores, owners who want everything on their own hostingPlugin sprawl, updates that need watching, and speed work nobody scheduled
Custom storefrontConfigurable products, bookings sold beside items, marketplace splitsYou own the maintenance, so the code has to be documented for someone else to run it
Indian Reality

What breaks an Indian checkout that a foreign template never anticipated?

Cash on delivery, and what it costs you

COD is where a large share of Indian orders arrive from, and where returns and refusals arrive from too. A store needs the option, and the data to see which pin codes are worth accepting it in.

Pin codes decide the courier, not the city name

Serviceability, weight slabs and delivery time all resolve on the pin code. A checkout that asks for a city and guesses the rest will quote a promise it cannot keep.

Follow-up after the order is where a store keeps or loses a customer, and the WhatsApp thread that confirms dispatch or rescues a refused delivery can run through Waami, our own WhatsApp Business CRM, instead of a shared phone in a back office that nobody audits and nobody can search when the owner asks where that order went.

Live Builds

Which stores has this team built?

Open both, on a phone. Astro Devam sells a service booking and a physical product in the same checkout, which is the harder of the two shapes because a booking carries a date and a product carries stock.

Selling to a specific audience: e-commerce and D2C brands covers how that sector's storefronts get found, and SEO services covers the traffic that fills them.

Questions, Answered

E-commerce development questions

Do you build on Shopify, WooCommerce or from scratch?

All three, chosen against how you sell. Shopify suits a catalogue that changes hands quickly and a team that wants no server to think about. WooCommerce suits content-heavy stores and owners who want the whole thing in their own hosting. A custom storefront suits a product with rules no platform handles, such as configurable bundles, marketplace splits or a booking plus a purchase in one flow. We say which one we would use before we quote it.

Can you migrate an existing store?

Yes. A migration moves products, customers, order history where the platform allows it, and the URLs that already hold search traffic, with a 301 for anything that has to move. Indexation is re-checked after launch, because the failure mode of a store migration is not a broken page, it is a page that quietly drops out of the index.

Is e-commerce development the same as a website with a buy button?

No, and that is where most budgets go wrong. A selling page needs catalogue structure, payment and tax handling, inventory, shipping logic, order states, returns, transactional email and a back office. A brochure site with a payment link has none of that, and finds out on the first busy weekend.

Will you guarantee sales?

No honest agency will. Traffic, conversion rate and average order value depend on your product, your pricing and your market, and no developer controls those. What is promised in writing is the engineering: a store that loads quickly, a checkout that works on the first attempt, product pages that search engines can index, and data you can read to decide what to change.

Who owns the store, the data and the integrations?

You own all of it: the domain, the platform account, the payment gateway merchant account, the customer database and the analytics properties. Accounts get set up in your name before work starts, so a launch does not depend on anyone's goodwill later.

Can a store sell services and bookings next to products?

Yes, and for many Indian practices that is the right shape: a consultation booked alongside the gemstone that goes with it, or a course sold next to the material. That combination is why some stores need custom work rather than a stock template; see the astrology marketplace we built for one example.
