Custom SaaS built from the process you run today.
Zumper Innovation Labs is a custom SaaS development company in India that starts with the workflow, not the wireframe. We build multi-tenant products, internal tools and subscription applications with billing, permissions and an admin panel that your staff can run without us in the room. We also ship and operate our own products, so the advice comes from software we have to keep alive.
What is inside a custom SaaS build?
Six layers. Screens are one of them, and the least expensive one, which is why a quote built only from a design is always wrong about the total. Most SaaS development India teams take on starts by deciding how little to launch — an MVP development pass that proves the product before the expensive layers arrive.
Scope before code
The process gets written down first: who uses the system, in what order, which step is automated today and which step still runs on WhatsApp. That document is what the build is priced against, and what both sides hold each other to.
Data model and permissions
Entities, relationships and the roles that may see or change each one. Multi-tenant products get tenancy decided at the schema level, not patched in when the second customer arrives and needs their data kept out of the first one's reports.
Authentication and accounts
Sign-up, sessions, password resets, invitation flows and an audit trail of who did what. This is the part of a product nobody demos and everybody inherits badly, so it is built to a standard rather than to a deadline.
Subscription billing, in Indian rupees
Plans, upgrades, proration, GST-compliant invoices, UPI and card payment through Indian gateways, dunning when a charge fails, and a cancel path that does not require an email to a stranger.
Admin panel your team can drive
The back office is a feature, not a leftover. Staff should be able to look up a customer, fix an order, send a reset, read a report and change a plan without a developer in the loop.
Hosting, monitoring and the next release
Environments, backups, error reporting and a deploy path that a second engineer could run. Software that ships once and cannot be changed is not an asset; it is a liability with a login page.
Should you build software, or rent a tool?
Four shapes of decision, and the cost each one hides. Most companies arrive asking for the fourth and need the second.
| Option | When it is the right call | What it costs you later |
|---|---|---|
| Off-the-shelf SaaS | Your process is normal: invoicing, CRM, helpdesk, scheduling | Per-seat fees that grow with headcount, and workarounds where the tool will not bend |
| Internal tool | One process your team runs daily that no market product fits | Maintenance you own, and a document that must exist or the builder becomes load-bearing |
| Product for sale | Customers pay you monthly for the workflow itself | Billing, tenancy, support and a release cadence that never stops |
| Marketplace or platform | Two sides transact and you take a position in the middle | Payments on both sides, disputes, fraud, and supply you do not control |
How do you keep the first version small enough to finish?
Process before screens
We map the workflow the software replaces, including the parts nobody mentions because they live in someone's spreadsheet. The screens fall out of that map instead of preceding it.
Architecture that survives customer two
Tenancy, roles and data boundaries get decided before the first table is written, because retrofitting a single-customer app into a multi-tenant product is a rebuild with extra steps.
- 01Discovery against the real process, with the people who do the work, not only the person signing.
- 02A written scope with the cut line visible: what is in version one, what is queued, what was dropped and why.
- 03Data model, permissions and billing designed before UI work starts.
- 04Delivery in milestones you can see, each ending in something a user can click.
- 05Launch, then a fix list driven by what the first customers actually do rather than what the plan assumed.

Which products has this team shipped and kept alive?
Two of these are our own products, which is the only way a team learns what a release cadence actually costs. The rest are client systems, live on client domains, that you can open in another tab.
Waami
A WhatsApp Business CRM we operate: shared team inbox, labels, automation and broadcasts on the official Cloud API.
LIVE IN CLIENT BUILDSAstrology Engine
Kundli, Guna Milan, Dasha, numerology and Panchang as one engine, shipped into client websites and priced as a build menu.
CLIENT BUILDCosmoVoc
A full application with an admin panel and user management, built for a client and live on their domain.
CLIENT BUILDIndian Wisdom School
An education platform with course management and admission enquiries behind it.
Live means openable today. More client systems, including the storefront and platform builds, are on our work page with the scope each one was built to.
Custom SaaS development questions
What does a SaaS development company in India actually deliver?
A working product and the machinery around it: the data model, accounts and permissions, the billing that collects money, the admin panel your team runs it from, the hosting it deploys to and the monitoring that tells you when something breaks. Plus the written scope it was built against, so a change request has something to be measured on.
Should we build software or buy an off-the-shelf tool?
Buy whenever your process matches what the market already sells. Build when the process is the thing that makes you different, or when a rented tool charges per seat and still forces you to work around it. The honest answer is often half of each, and that answer costs an agency less than an always-builds one, which is why it is usually the right one for you.
How do you keep an MVP from becoming a two-year project?
By cutting scope out loud. The first list is written as everything, then every line is asked the same question: does the product fail without it, or is it just nicer? What survives that filter is what gets built first, on a date, with the rest queued in an order the usage data can argue with.
Who owns the code and the data?
You do. The repository, the cloud accounts, the database, the payment gateway keys and the domain are in your name, and the stack is documented so another engineer can read it. A product that only its builder can maintain is not a moat; it is a hostage situation.
Can you take over a product another team built?
Yes, starting with a read of the codebase, the infrastructure and the data rather than a rebuild by reflex. You get a written assessment of what is sound, what is carrying risk and what has to change before the next feature lands. Plenty of stalled products need two months of consolidation, not a new stack.
How much does custom SaaS development cost?
By scope, never by a price list on a page. Two products with the same screens can differ several times over depending on tenancy, billing complexity, integrations and how much of the operations side has to exist on day one. The software cost estimator turns those choices into a range you built, and a call turns it into a number.
